In
2004 we are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings
with a special Tour taking in the commemorative events scheduled
for that time. The anticipated schedule is as published below,
but is subject to confirmation of the final program in April/May
2004.
JUNE
3rd 2004:
Collection from Paris in the morning, From Paris, follow the Seine
River through landscapes that inspired impressionist artists.
A visit to Monet's famous gardens at Giverny and explore the countryside
surrounding the pretty town of Les Andelys.
Visit
the beautiful old city of Rouen and explore the quaint streets
and the famous cathedral, made famous by Monet's many paintings.
Arrive at your accommodation for the week.
JUNE 4th:
Visit
the famous cheese factory a Livarot and the country market at
Saint Pierre sur Dives, and its 11th century market halls and
abbey. Visit William the Conqueror's native town of Falaise and
also the War Memorial at Montormel. Return home passing through
Croutte, visiting the beautiful Abbey gardens and a local farm
to taste the cider and calvados.
JUNE 5th:
Today we will see the inauguration of the commemoration transfer
to the Pegasus Memorial and the Air show. Afternoon tour of the
Canadian & British landing beaches. Dinner at restaurant.
View the fireworks from different towns along the coast.
JUNE
6th: Commemoration full day & ceremony at OMAHA beach.
JUNE
7th: Commemoration full day & visit of UTAH beach
JUNE 8th:
Guided
tour of Honfleur, picturesque port. Visit the fishing port of
Trouville and the chic seaside resort of Deauville. Drive through
beautiful countryside to the award-winning villages of Beaumont-en-Auge
and Beuvron-en-Auge.
JUNE
9th:
Guided
tour of Caen, with a visit to the spectacular Abbaye aux Hommes
,the Abbaye aux Dames and William's Castle. Free time to explore
Caen. A visit to the Caen Memorial museum . Guided tour of historic
Bayeux.
JUNE
10th: After breakfast, drive to Paris to a hotel or the airport.
EXTRA
DAYS: As the Commemoration events are at the weekend, we will
be running the tour from mid-week to mid-week. As a result, it
will be possible to extend the tour for two days either at the
beginning or the end of the scheduled dates.
